Devlog 10: Start of Polish

Art

Hello weary traveller!!! Welcome back to our humble devlog!!!!

WE HAVE STARTED THE POLISH PHASE, WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are lots of fun little details to add, that will make the game pop. Further more we worked on adding more sounds, sadly we cant let you hear any of these on itch, but if you want you can hear them in our build.

Malou worked more on level decoration and below you can see the beautiful player select screen she put together.

Hugo made icons for next to the health bar, these will change the lower your health gets. Still a work in progress

He also made some adaptive particles to show the imbalance better.

Sarah worked on a silhouette material so that when the players are behind something, you will be able to follow where Leggy and Peggy are.

Luke worked on giving more flavour to the health bar when hit.

Ducks for in the water made by Sarah, they are animated :) quack.

We are very  hyped to work more in this polish  phase and get the game to the state we want it to be :)

More particles, sprites, lighting and animations on the way!!!!

Programming

We noticed that a lot of people had trouble aiming at the right target, so we reworked how aiming works.

Instead of taking the direction you are holding the thumbstick to directly determine the location of the crosshair, you now move the crosshair around the screen just like you would move a character around.
From the limited tests we did, we noticed that shooting far-away targets is way easier now, since you can accurately place the crosshair. But in close-quarters combat, it is more difficult since you have to quickly change which direction you're aiming at.

What do you think? Do you agree with our observations, or do you have a different opinion? Let us know in the comments section.

We also made the rubble that fell from breakable walls collide with the player, which makes it possible to push it around after the wall breaks. It does also make it harder to pass a wall, since you will be slower when pushing rubble. Maybe jumping is a good idea?

You might've also noticed some lag issues if you played on certain devices, this should now no longer happen! We discovered that virtual shadow maps can cause lag on certain devices, and since we were using that, we also had that issue. Luckily we could disable it easily.

Another nice change is that when an enemy or player dies from hitting the water, they no longer fall dead on top of the water, instead they actually drown with a nice drowning animation and effect.

Game Controls

Peggy is now added so you will need an extra controller!
