Devlog 9: Final week of production


Hello and welcome back to the Leggy Peggy devlogs!

This week is our last week of production and next week we are starting on our polish sprint. We're very excited as everything is nicely coming together. All the features are there and now it's onto making the game pretty and feel smooth. Last week we had a playtesting evening where everyone got to play each other's game. From here we got a bunch of feedback to add in these next two weeks.

Art

As the end of our production draws close we are finishing up the level. From the feedback we got from the playtesting session everyone felt the game was going good! So we didn't have to change much to our level. Some parts of the level were too hard, but this also made people want to play it more, since they knew it wasn't impossible. These hard parts made some people think about different strategies to get through the section. To make it a bit easier and thought through to get through some sections, we changed the path of the enemies so they don't swarm behind the wall you are trying to get through.


We also worked on a lot of the set dressing. We started section by section and worked up from there. Every section gets a few passes; A border, walls, vegetation and water pass. Additionally, Luke worked on adding interesting visuals to the non playable area, like broken temples and water basins, which add a lot the aesthetics of the level. We've added a bunch of beauty shots below, we hope you them enjoy.

These screenshots include new assets: bamboo stems, a boat, a fern and some arrows (which we ended up using as bigger assets to fill up the sides)



Hugo also worked on some additional animations we needed!



Programming

This week, we did some more animation work, all enemies now have different animations for:
- running
- idle
- attacking
- getting hit
- dying




The game feels much more alive now!

We also added a soundsystem to our game, all sounds are already playing at the right time, we just need to find the right sound files.

As you may have noticed in our last build, the crosshair was a little bugged and it was very annoying to aim with. We fixed this and it now works fully as intended, enjoy!

We also did some general bugfixes, increased hitbox size of the enemies so you can hit them easier, and did lots of other general improvements.


Game Controls

Peggy is now added so you will need an extra controller!
